Numerous course improvements have been made during this time. In recent years, five new greens have been built, two man-made water hazards constructed, three holes have received significant re-designs, 20 new bunkers installed, and several mounding / contouring changes have been made.

At 6500 yards from the Championship tees, the length is somewhat short by today's standards. However, it is the narrow fairways and the need to play precise approach shots that will provide the truest test of all elements of a golfer's skill. Many golfers arrive at the Royal Regina expecting to score well, yet soon find that this course requires more than just the ability to play long ball.

During the 2003 Canadian National Mid-Amateur Championships, 120 of the best amateur golfers in Canada arrived with visions of plentiful birdies and numerous sub-par rounds, yet left with a new respect for the other challenges this course presents. Throughout the first three days of competition, a mere five percent of the rounds were completed under par, while tournament low score was 67 (-5).
